COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.
(May 14) - USA RUGBY announced Wednesday it will return to East Stroudsburg,
Pennsylvania, July 10-13, 2003, to
offer a Player Development Camp for high school girls and boys and collegiate
men and women.
USA RUGBY, East Stroudsburg
University, and the ESU Rugby Family worked very hard to bring together a very
successful camp last year
said East Stroudsburg Rugby Coach Kevin Castner. I believe with these
same groups working together again it can only make for another
outstanding camp.
The camp at East Stroudsburg
University, sponsored by RUGGERS.COM, is
open to high school and college boys and girls of all skill levels
from beginner to advanced. An initial skills evaluation at the opening of the
camp will allow instructors to group players according to age
and ability. Each camper will have the opportunity to experience both dynamic
classroom and practical on-field training sessions.
Salty Thompson, current
U19 Boys National Team Head Coach will again serve as the Lead Instructor
for the camp, responsible for overall
curriculum and instruction. Several of USA RUGBYS best national team coaches,
instructors and players will join Coach Thompson to provide
training and instruction to all campers in basic and more specific rugby skills.
The classroom instruction
will help players learn rugbys tactical Key Factors, and will
also cover topics such as strength and
conditioning and video analysis. The field instruction portion of the camp is
designed for both basic and advanced skill level players. All
campers will also compete in controlled scrimmages.
At the conclusion of the
camp, each player will receive a Player Evaluation Form, which describes the
players strengths, as well as
areas in which the player needs improvement. The evaluations are recorded in
the central evaluation database at the USA RUGBY National
Office and made available to national team coaches.
Players wishing to attend
can do so as a resident or day camper. All campers will receive a player development
camp manual, camp jersey,
four days of staff instruction and complete player profile evaluation.
The resident camp fee is
$325 and covers three night accommodations in the university dormitory and three
breakfasts, lunches and dinners. A
day camper fee of $250 includes one dinner and three lunches.
Space is limited to 225
players per camp and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-serve
basis. Early registration is
recommended. To learn more about the camp or to register on-line, go to www.usarugby.org.
