NYSRC Hosts NRU High School Championship - May 30, 2003
Genesee Community College Site of 2003 Event

BATAVIA, NY -- The Northeast USA Rugby Union will hold their High School Championshps Saturday and Sunday at Genesee Community College. A berth in the USA National High School Championships in Dallas, TX May 17 & 18 is at stake and the event will feature the six best teams in a seven state area.

The Genesee Rugby Club is hosting the event in conjunction with the 26th Annual Dead Ants Tournament. The weekend will feature thirty games over the two days in Men?s, Women?s, and High School divisions. There will also be a girls high school exhibition game on Saturday. Rugby Imports will be the on site vendor with complete Rugby equipment available.

Perennial national powerhouse Xavier High School from New York City is highlights the High School Championship. Xavier has earned a trip to the National High School Championship thirteen times since the event was instituted in 1981, and won the title outright in both 1985 and 1993. Also representing the Met New York Conference will be Keio Academy from Purchase, NY and Fairfield Prep from Fairfield, CT. New England is represented by Boston College High School, a private prep school in Boston. New York State representatives Fairport High School and McQuaid from Rochester round out the field. This is the first time New York State has participated in the event.

The preliminary rounds are on Saturday at 9:00 & 11:00 am, 12:00 noon, and 2:00 & 3:00 pm. The third place game kicks off at 10:00 am Sunday with the championship following at 1:00 pm. The public is invited to attend and there is no charge.
