UB Men’s Rugby Team Seeks New Head Coach
In light of the recent announcement of Mickey’s McGuire’s retirement from
The Head Coaching position at the University of Buffalo, the UB Rugby Club
Search Committee is now receiving applications from qualified candidates
for the position of Head Coach.
This posting will remain open until a new Head Coach is appointed, with a
strong desire to have a new Head Coach in position prior to the start of
the 2010 Fall season. Candidates will be interviewed, by the Search
Committee, on a rolling basis.
Candidates who wish to apply must submit a coaching vitae and “A Plan for
Maintenance and Growth of the UB Rugby Club.” Individual "Plans for
Maintenance and Growth" will be presented at the time of the interview.

UB Men’s Rugby Head Coach Job Description
Candidates must hold USA/IRB rugby coaching certification and/or
equivalent or must commit to certification process upon appointment.
Candidates with current USA/IRB will be given preference.
Responsibilities include all aspects of the on-field coaching
responsibilities, player development, recruitment, game management, team
administration, and management within SUNY Buffalo Student Association
guidelines and Alumni support. The head coach will be responsible for the
overall operations of both the Division I and Division III NYS Rugby
Conference teams. Compensation is only provided for the Division I Head
Coach position at this time.
Candidates must have extensive coaching and or playing experience as well
as a strong understanding of collegiate rugby and the collegiate
environment. Prior successful coaching experience preferred. The head
coaching position will require a considerable amount of travel during the
NYS Rugby Conference season and NRU playoffs.
The Search Committee will receive from each candidate invited to interview
“A Plan for Maintenance and Growth of the UB Rugby Club.”
Areas of responsibility and requirements:
USA/IRB certification or willingness to become certified
Relevant experience as coach and or player
Understanding of collegiate coaching environment
Understanding of collegiate environment
Manage with team executive board, new player recruitment
Participate on UB rugby foundation
Assist Alumni Foundation with establishment of scholarship program
Facilitate and foster University relations
Assist with field development proposal
Supervise game day management
Assist with team store
Oversee scheduling
Selections
Provide guidance for UB rugby web site (www.ubmensrugby.org)
Work with Alumni to develop UB summer youth camp
Budget oversight
Monitor equipment needs and team kits
Additional coaching staff appointed at the discretion of the head coach
