NYS Rugby Hosts Most Successful Player Camp in Conference History - Mar 3, 2010 USA Eagles Coach Eddie O'Sullivan Leads Camp
BUFFALO, NY -- NYS Rugby hosted its most successful Player Development Camp in conference history this past weekend. The camp was held in Orchard Park, NY, at the Buffalo Bills' Fieldhouse at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
A record 156 U19 High School players, the largest total in the six years of the event, were coached by USA Eagles coach Eddie O'Sullivan, USA Rugby CEO Nigel Melville. Participants were able to take part in small group fundamental instruction, followed with large group theory sessions. The instruction was supported by over 20 members of NYS Rugby coaching community.
"To have Eddie O'Sullivan and Nigel Melville lead our Player Camp was truly an incredible experience for all involved," said Mike Hodgins, NYS Rugby President. "Our conference continues to be a national leader in its programming and support of the game at this, and every, level. This camp shows yet again that Rugby is growing at an exceptional pace in New York State."
The Player Camp is the first event of NYS Rugby's 2010 Game Development Series, which expects over 400 participants. March will see the eighth annual USA Rugby Coaches Development Program (CDP), scheduled for CBA in Syracuse. In addition, multiple IRB Level I Referee Training Courses are scheduled.
NYS Rugby governs over 100 clubs and 2,000 athletes at the senior, collegiate and youth levels. It is the third-largest Local Area Union (LAU) under the governance of USA Rugby.
