McQuaid Captures NYSRC U-19 Tournament Title - May 30, 2003
McQuaid and Fairport to Represent NYSRC at NRU Tournament
GENEVA, NY -- The
New York State Rugby Conference (NYSRC) held the 2003 U-19 Youth Tournament
at Seneca Lake State Park here this afternoon. Following a round robin format,
McQuaid took home the team title with a unblemished 3-0 record. Fairport placed
second for the tournament.
"This was another step in our development of rugby at the youth level," said
NYSRC President Mike Hodgins. "Youth rugby is integral to the development of
the game, and we recognize its value as a feeder to the collegiate level and
further. We expect that McQuaid and Fairport will represent us well at the NRUs."
McQuaid defeated Ithaca, 14-0, in its opening match, followed by a 34-0 decision
over School Withoput Walls (SWW). McQuaid finished off its day with a tough
1-0 win over local rival Fairport.
Fairport placed second, followed by SWW and Ithaca.
McQuaid and Fairport will represent the NYSRC at the Northeast Rugby Union's
U-19 tournament next week.
