Mike Kusiek Named NYS Women's U23 Select Side Coach

ALBANY -- NYS Rugby has named Mike Kusiek the head coach of the NYS Women's U23 Select Side team. The announcement was made this afternoon by Kristin 'Red' Huber, NYS Rugby VP of College Women.

Kusiek recently relocated to Rochester from Wyoming, where he was the head coach of the University of Wyoming Women's RFC from 2002-2009. He has been actively involved with successful select-side programs in the Western region since 2003, serving as both head and assistant coach for the Eastern Rockies Women's U23, and as an assistant coach for the West U23s.

"I am confident that Mike will do an outstanding job with the Women's U23 program," said Red Huber, NYS Rugby VP of College Women. "He brings a wealth of coaching experience to NYS Rugby and possesses great enthusiasm for the sport. With so many talented athletes in our union, it is important to provide them opportunities for exposure to the higher levels of the game. I am hopeful that players across NYS will take advantage of this great opportunity."

Kusiek is excited for the opportunity to resume his coaching and player development within NYS Rugby. His first task will be to select a team to compete in the NRU U23 Tournament scheduled for April 25.

"I am honored to be selected to work with the NYS U23 program," Kusiek said. "I look forward to the development and success of U23 and Women's college-side rugby in our union, and am pleased to be able to contribute. I look forward to meeting all the great coaches and players.

Huber will also be involved with the U23s in the role of an assistant coach.

Information about tryout dates and locations will released at a later date. Questions can be directed to Red at rugbyred13@aol.com.
