Report:
Led by the stellar speed and play of scrumhalf Clayton Haley and the power of its forwards, Coastal Carolina (USA Rugby South) defeated Oswego State (New York State RC), 36-15, to capture the 2009 Men's Collegiate Division 3 National Rugby Championship.

Oswego's staunch defense kept CCU from scoring early in the match, highlighted by solid goalline stands; flanker Alexandre Marchon finally broke through at the 23rd minute to put CCU on top 5-0. Just before halftime prop Alex Nazon drove over to give CCU a 10-0.

Oswego, led inside center Dave Shaut's running and the speed of flanker Matt Moir, showed early signs of a comeback in the second half. However, it was CCU winger Eric Beard who make his speed count, scoring just six minutes into the 2nd half. Beard also made the conversion and CCU was up 17-0.

Another forward lock, Ben Jenkins, powered over to run the score to 22-0. Flyhalf Steve Pease scored off a quick-tap penalty and with Beard's conversion CCU seemed to have it all their way at 29-0.

Oswego's Kandu Agbimson finally broke the drought for Oswego as he found the in-goal area and scored. Clayton Haley quickly answered for CCU with a try. Late Oswego trys by winger Jason McGuckin and Matt Moir resulted in a 36-15 final score to CCU.

In the 3rd place match, Longwood (Virginia RU) held off Salve Regina (New England RFU) to win, 24-12.

Player of the Game: Jason McGuckin (Oswego)
Championship MVP: Clayton Haley (Coast Carolina)
