BOULDER, Colo. (November 13, 2008) – USA Rugby is excited to announce that following the recent extension of its partnership with the National Guard, the organizations are expanding the successful National Guard Kit Program in the coming year.
Building on the strong foundation of the 2008 National Guard Kit Program, which impacted 300 college teams, the 2009 National Guard Kit Program will provide resources to an additional 100 college and 400 high school clubs. The renewed partnership includes additional benefits to further the development of teams and players, such as customizable team Web sites and the newly launched National Guard Mentoring Program.
“USA Rugby and the National Guard are perfect partners. They share common values and ideals among their members, including the development of lifelong camaraderie between teammates, and working together towards accomplishing a common goal. We are excited to continue our partnership with the National Guard and to aid in the development of rugby clubs around the nation. The Guard deserves high praise for generously providing this service to our sport,” said Nigel Melville, USA Rugby’s CEO and President of Rugby Operations.
USA Rugby and the National Guard, in conjunction with World Rugby Shop, will again supply recipient teams with a full kit of twenty-five jerseys, shorts, and socks with the ability to customize the style and color to retain club identity. Included in the National Guard Kit Program will also be a full array of field and practice equipment including field flags, goal post pads, practice and match balls from Gilbert and more.
“We believe that the Kit Program aligns itself well with the core principles of the National Guard. It is the perfect way to help our partnership reach down to the very fabric of the sport at the high school level, when these players first pick up a rugby ball. The National Guard is extremely proud to have partnered with USA Rugby to create a program that will have one of the greatest impacts on our young people in this country, teaching them perseverance, integrity, and teamwork,” said Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Day of the National Guard.
New in 2009, each Kit recipient club will boost its online presence via a team specific site hosted on the USA Rugby Web site, through which it can interact with players and supporters and other Kit Program teams by posting scores, pictures, videos and other information.
USA Rugby is now accepting applications from interested college and high school clubs online at National Guard Kit Application.
Interested teams will need to have their local recruiter’s contact information, RSID # (unique recruiter number) and their shipping address.
