Oneonta Men's Collegiate Club Suspended

ALBANY, NY -- The NYS Rugby Conference (NYS Rugby) has suspended the SUNY Oneonta collegiate men's rugby club (DIII East) from competition for gross violations of conference policy. Further sanctions will be meted out by the Conference's Disciplinary Committee upon further investigation.

"Member clubs of our conference had better take notice of this result," said J.C. Whipple, Executive Director. "Actions such as those which Oneonta took part will not be tolerated. Should you or your club break policy, there will be a severe penalty to be paid. The days of 'old-school' rugby in this conference are over."

Following Oneonta's game against Paul Smiths last Saturday, Sept. 13, two players were acknowledged to be consuming alcoholic beverages on the sidelines and a third player exposed himself while running across the playing field.

"I commend the Disciplinary Committee for taking the steps they did in this matter," Whipple said. "It does not matter the level of competition - we ask the DC to act swiftly and severely to ensure the continued growth of our sport."
