Kristin Bonomo (Union), Christina Kilourhy (Cornell) and Tess Kohanski (Syracuse) Named to USA Women's Squad
ALBANY, NY – USA A Women’s Coach Barb Fugate named Kristin Bonomo (Union '04), Christina Kilourhy (Cornell) and Tess Kohanski (Syracuse) to the final line-up for a match against the Ontario Selects in the second annual Can-Am match-up. The match takes place on Saturday, July 19, at Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario. Kickoff is set for 3:10 p.m. (ET).
"This is great national exposure for these three players and we wish Kristin, Christina and Tess continued success," said Mike Hodgins, NYS Rugby President. "It shows the athletes of our 100-plus member clubs, that with true dedication and commitment, competing for national program sides is a dream within reach."
This year’s Can-Am event gives the Women’s A side a chance to gain additional experience and undergo evaluation by USA Rugby coaches for further WNT opportunities, while the Women’s Senior National Team prepares for the Nation’s Cup set to be held in England in August.
The USA A front row is comprised of Katy Black (West Chester University), Kohanski (At Large/Syracuse) and Kristin Aliberto (Philadelphia), with locks Jenny Menke (Minnesota Valkyries) and Anna Brown (Twin Cities Amazons), flankers Kelly McMahon (New York) and Victoria Folayan (Berkeley All Blues), and No. 8 Kate Daley (Penn State) rounding out the pack.
The backline features UC-San Diego’s Alexis Volen at scrumhalf and Hannah Stolba (Minnesota Valkyries) at flyhalf, with Lisa Dombroski (Philadelphia) and Kristy Lear (Minnesota Valkyries) on the wings and Bonomo (Beantown/Union College) and Kilourhy (Cornell) filling the inside and outside center roles, respectively.
Reserves include Angie Marfisi (Philadelphia), Katherine Weber (Iowa State), Katie McCormick (Univ. of Wisconsin – Milwaukee) and Kate Schafer (Univ. of Colorado – Boulder).
