NRU Announces Men's College All Star Dates

The Northeast Rugby Union has its calendar of events for the 2008 NRU Men's College All-Star team. Head Coach Mike Hodgins will be leading open tryouts in each of the three NRU local area unions. Additionally, the NRU will once again sponsor the annual NRU Cup competition between the LAU select sides. The New York State Rugby Conference will be the host LAU for this year's tournament.

The announced events are:
March 30 Met NY New York City, NY
April 6 NERFU Boston, MA
April 13 NYSRC Syracuse, NY
May 3-4 NRU Cup, selection practice Hosted by NYSRC Location TBD


Specific venues will be announced as soon as they are confirmed. Players for the 2008 NRU team will be selected primarily based on their performances at the tryouts and the NRU Cup event. Players from any LAU are welcome at any of the open tryouts. Any interested player or coach should contact NRU Men's College All-Star coach Mike Hodgins at mhodgins@hodginsprinting.com.

In a related matter, the New England Rugby Football Union has announced to the NRU that it is discontinuing it's college select side programs. NERFU Executive Director of Colleges Chip Auscavitch cited a "lack of player interest" as the primary reason for the decision.

It is not known at this time whether NERFU will participate in the NRU Cup. "It's unfortunate that NERFU has made this decision at a time when the NRU Cup is raising the level of select side play throughout the territory" said Hodgins. "As one of our primary selection vehicles, we will move forward with the NRU Cup and hope that NERFU players will continue to particpate in the event." added Hodgins.
