SYRACUSE, NY -- New York State Rugby (NYS Rugby) completed it first full week of play on Sunday, as 75 clubs are vying for playoff spots in 11 divisions in men's club, and men's and women's collegiate play.
In men's club play, Syracuse improved to 3-0 with a tough 27-19 win over previously unbeaten South Buffalo (2-1). Resurgent Genesee remained undefeated with a well-earned 25-10 victory at Lockport. Cortland-Homer and Rochester each picked up its first win of the season, both improving to 1-2 on the year.
In Collegiate Men's Premier Division I play, Syracuse (2-0) remained perfect following its 73-5 win over Canisius. Buffalo blanked Binghamton, 46-0, to move to 2-0 as well.
Collegiate Women's Division I finds traditional power Buffalo pacing the field at 2-0 following two wins last weekend. UB cruised to a 50-0 win over Binghamton on Saturday, and then came back with a 27-0 shutout of Ithaca on Sunday. Cornell outlasted Syracuse by a wide margin in its first contest of the season.
Collegiate Men's Division II East is paced by Colgate, which stands at 3-0 following its solid 27-12 win at St. Lawrence on Saturday. Albany (1-0-2) tied for the second time this season, this time with Siena (1-1-1), 20-20. Union is now 1-0-1 following its 22-0 win over local rival RPI. In Men's Division II West action, St. Bonaventure is now 4-0 following its 45-12 victory at Fredonia (2-2). Geneseo improved to 3-1 with a 53-8 decision over Le Moyne.
In Women's Division II East play, St. Lawrence moved to 1-0-1 after a 5-5 tie with Colgate (0-0-1). Siena and Oneonta earned their first wins of the season - Siena a 29-0 winner over Union, and Oneonta with a 12-5 win over RPI.
It was the opening weekend of play for Collegiate Men's DIII. In the East, Clarkson, Hamilton and Oneonta were all winners, while Buffalo and Niagara earned their first win in the West.
In Collegiate Women's Division III action, Clarkson was a big winner over Potsdam this weekend. In the West, Le Moyne (2-0) remained perfect with a 56-5 decision over St. John Fisher. Canisius improved to 2-0 with a 10-7 win over St. Bonaventure (1-1), and Niagara moved to 1-1 with a 12-0 shutout of William Smith.
