NYS Rugby Holds Youth All-Star Games - Jun 5, 2007
Maggie Giamo and Matt Agugliaro Earn MVP Honors
NYS Rugby Holds Youth All-Star Games
Congratulations on another outstanding youth rugby season. On Sunday, NYS Rugby held is annual High School All-Star games, and the team were more competetive than ever.
In the Girl's All-Star game, the Gold Team (KW, OP, EA) took an early lead with the help of a great run by their fullback. The Red Team (FPT, BCH, KE) fought back and played the later part of the game inside the Gold's 22. In the end, the score was tied 12-12. Gold fullback Maggie Giamo (OP) was awarded the MVP plaque after scoring all 12 points for Gold and making two try-saving tackles.
The Boy's All-Star game was as closely contested. Both teams tackled well but made some costly handling errors. Many individual efforts led to big breaks, only to be squandered by scrambling defenses. In the end, the East defeated the West, 16-14. A thunderstorm rolled in before the MVP plaque could be awarded. This year's MVP was flanker Matt Agugliaro (KW).
Thank you to everyone that helped make the day a success. As our youth league continues to grow, it ensures that rugby at all levels in New York State, and beyond, will continue to improve.
Look for another note soon on plans for the 2008 season.
Best wishes for an outstanding summer -
