SU Women's RFC Raises $750 for Komen Race For the Cure

Syracuse, NY -- Eight members of the Syracuse University Women’s RFC raised $750 during this past weekends 24th Annual Race for the Cure held at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Organized by Komen for the Cure, over 1.5 million runners ran/walked a 5K at different locations around the country to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

Amanda Bernasconi, a junior flanker, stated, “The race was a well-put together event that brought out the best in people from all communities. I really feel it was the perfect venue to introduce SUWRFC to the entire Komen community."

Bernasconi is the Club’s coordinator of all activities involving Komen for the Cure. At the event the Club had a table in the tented area where every survivor present paraded through and also had a tent out on the lawn where they passed rugby balls around and encouraged the crowd to join in.

In addition over 500 advertisements for the first annual Game for the Cure were passed out. The Game for the Cure will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, at SU's Hookway Field and will feature the SU women taking on the University at Buffalo. Several events are planned surround the Game.

The Race is one of many fundraising activities that are currently going on at Syracuse. They have a “Go Forward.. Support.. The Cure” pink bracelets currently on sale. Bernasconi also indicated that a Rugby/Cure t-shirt design is complete and sponsorships for the Game for the Cure are currently being collected.
