St. Lawrence Named Host of 2006 Collegiate Championships
SYRACUSE, NY -- New York State Rugby Conference (NYS Rugby) officials announced this morning that the 2006 Collegiate Championships will be hosted by St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. It will be the first time in several years that a member collegiate institution has been awarded the right to host the event.
"The Collegiate Championships are one of NYS Rugby's premier events each year," said Mike Hodgins, NYS Rugby President. "In awarding the host rights to St. Lawrence, we are excited to move this event back to a collegiate venue. We have the utmost confidence that St. Lawrence will do an outstanding job."
Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY, has served as the site of the Collegiate Championships for the past four years.
"We are thrilled to be named host of the NYS Rugby Championships," said Kelly Davis, men's and women's rugby coach at St. Lawrence. "Our clubs have put a lot of effort into securing this bid and will continue working toward putting together an outstanding event."
The Men's and Women's Collegiate Championships will take place on Saturday, October 28. Three men's and three women's titles will be up for grabs, while NRU Playoff seeds are also to be awarded. Three fields will run concurrently, with action commencing at 9:00 a.m.
Announcement of the tournament field and brackets, as well as a full schedule of events, will be announced the week leading up to the Championships.
