Four Regional Teams to Compete in Inaugural All-Star Tournament

To all New York State Rugby Conference Menís College players and coaches:

As part of our efforts to increase our unionís competitiveness within the Northeast Rugby Union, the NYSRC will select four regional All-Star teams that will compete in the inaugural NYSRC Menís College All-Star Tournament.

The four regional teams are comprised of players from the following clubs:

Canisius College
Fredonia SUNY
Niagara University
St. Bonaventure

West
Brockport SUNY
Hobart College
Geneseo SUNY
RIT
St. John Fisher
Univ. of Rochester

NYSRC is looking for coaches interested in organizing and assembling the regional teams, and conducting practice session(s) in preparation for the all-star tournament on Sunday April 23rd. (The location for the tournament will be announced in the next few weeks). This tournament will be the primary selection vehicle for the 2006 NYS All-Star team with each regional team playing 2 matches. The tournament replaces last yearís open tryout format and gives players a chance to show the coaches what they can do under actual game conditions.

Players selected for the 2006 NYS All-Star team will play in a tournament the weekend of May 12th against teams from New England and Met NY. Selected players from the NRU tournament will be invited to the NRU tryouts. It is recommended that any player wishing to tryout for the NRU team participate in the NYS regional competition.

If anyone from your club is interested in playing for, or coaching one of the regional teams, please contact Fred Bressette at vpcollegemen@nysrugby.org, or NYSRC President Mike Hodgins at president@nysrugby.org. Players and coaches from all teams and all divisions are encouraged to attend.
