Rochester Colonials to host annual spring collegiate tournament
SYRACUSE, NY -- New York State Rugby Conference (NYS Rugby) officials announced this evening that the 2006 Upstates Collegiate Tournament will be held in Rochester, NY, at Genesee Valley Park on April 29-30. The Rochester Colonials men's rugby club will serve as the local tournament hosts.
"The Collegiate Upstates are one of NYS Rugby's premier events each year," said Mike Hodgins, NYS Rugby President. "It proves to be an outstanding weekend of rugby and is the perfect culmination to the school year for the collegiate sides."
The men's collegiate tournament will take place on Saturday, April 29, followed on Sunday, April 30, with the women's collegiate tournament. Four fields will be running each day, with action commencing at 9:00 a.m.
New to the weekend's festivities this year will be a Youth Rugby Clinic, hosted by the Colonials.
"NYS Rugby is pleased to partner with the Rochester Colonials to stage this terrific event," said J.C. Whipple, NYS Rugby Executive Director. "Youth rugby continues to grow in the Rochester area and this venue will be perfect stage to highlight our collegiate men's and women's clubs to the Rochester community at large."
Announcement of the field and brackets will take place the week leading up to the event.
NYS Rugby governs over 75 clubs at the menís and womenís club, menís and womenís collegiate, and boy's and girl's youth levels. It is the third-largest Local Area Union (LAU) under the governance of USA Rugby.
