NYS Rugby to Host Level I Referee Clinic - Feb 5, 2006
To be held at Genesee CC on Feburary 4

NYS Rugby is pleased to announce an IRB L1 Referee Certification Clinic to be held on the campus of Genesee CC [Room B307], Saturday, February 4, starting at start at 9 a.m.

Level 1 Referee certification is required for all referees who referee any US match that potentially leads to a national championship.
Level 1 Referee certification is one of the prerequisites to earn the C3 rating.

Levels 1-3 Touch Judge certification is recommended of all referees and is a prerequisite for a C2 or higher referee grade.
Level 1 Touch Judge certification is offered and intended for club touch judge training.

The Fee is $75, and if there is enough interest, we will be holding a L1 and L2 touch judge courses as well [fees $35]. We will send out for pizza for lunch so we can work through noon and be completed by 2-3 PM. (Please bring $$ to offset the pizza order). Referees who only want to attend the Touch Judge Courses should also let me know, and they will start at 3 PM and go until 4:30.

Course Requirements - Attendees must have taken the Introduction Course or have obtained a waiver from the course instructor based on at least one year of playing experience. There are no requirements for the TJ course.

Subsequent requirements, if you wish to become a certified referee (not required to attend the course): Current CIPP membership, pay the US Referees Association dues and pass the open book test.

The Level 1 Course is the basic referee course. It covers the referee's priorities, provides an introduction to the Laws of the game, examines scrums, rucks/mauls, tackles, line-outs, offsides and advantage with focus on the critical aspects of the game and how to referee them. The course does not go through the Laws page by page. That is left for the student to do with the take home test.

Registration is required by 21 January by letting the instructor know your interest. Please contact Harry Laws at hlaws@upa.chob.edu.
