SYRACUSE, NY -- New
York State Rugby (NYS Rugby) completed
it first
full week of play today, as 74
clubs are vying for playoff spots in 11
divisions in men's club, and
men's and women's collegiate
play.
In men's club play, at the
Division III level, the Syracuse
Chargers and
Rochester Colonials have set the pace
to open the season.
Rochester (3-0) has not allowed a single point, while Syracuse (2-0),
the three-time defending league
champion, has outscored its opponents by a 106-17 margin.
South Buffalo and Cortland-Homer are tied for third at 2-1, while Binghamton and Genesee are both 1-1.
Collegiate Men's Premier
Division I saw Binghamton, Buffalo and Cornell all card shutout wins to open 2005. Buffalo claimed a 56-0 blanking over Syracuse, while Binghamton won, 34-0, over RPI. Cornell had a tighter affair with Canisius, winning by a 10-0 margin.
Collegiate Men's Division II East is paced by Albany, Colgate and Union, while the West is currently led by Fredonia, Hobart and St. Bonaventure.
Clarkson and Oneonta lead the East and Niagara and RIT the West in Collegiate Men's
Division III play.
A stunning upset started the Collegiate WomenÃs Division I slate as Buffalo topped traditional power Cornell, 24-18, on Sunday. Syracuse and Ithaca were also victorious to open the campaign.
Albany, Colgate and Oneonta started 1-0 in the East, while Brockport, Fredonia and Geneseo lead the West in Collegiate Women's
Division II play.
In Collegiate Women's Division
III West action, Niagara was a 20-5 winner over Le Moyne.
