2004 NRU Collegiate Playoffs
Championship Weekend to be held at UMass-Amherst



SYRACUSE, NY -- Six NYS RUgby collegiate sides will be competing in the Northeast Rugby championships, held this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 13-14, at UMass-Amherst. To keep up-to-date with NYS Rugby teams competing in the NRU playoffs, please visit www.northeastrugby.org.


Collegiate Men's Division I
Cornell, seeded third in the NRU playoffs, fell to Boston College in a hard-fought match, 24-22, on Saturday. Fourth-seeded Buffalo advanced to the Final Four with a tight 17-14 win over No. 5 UConn.

Buffalo will face No. 1 Army in the semifinals, while No. 2 Dartmouth and Boston College square off in the other semifinal game.


Collegiate Men's Division II
No. 1 St. Bonaventure escaped with a 42-36 win over No. 8 Vassar in a game played in Olean on Sunday afternoon. Bonas will move on to face No. 4 Coast Guard, a 67-3 winner over No. 5 Geneseo, in the semifinals.

No. 6 Colgate, making its first appearance in the Division II NUR playoffs, fell to No. 3 Yale, 37-5, in New Haven on Saturday. Yale advances to face No. 7 Middlebury in the semifinals.


Collegiate Men's Division III
Niagara, NYS Division III champions, will square off with No. 2 Tufts in the semifinals on Saturday in Amherst. In the other semifinal, No. 1 Western Connecticut will take on No. 4 Hofstra.


Collegiate Women's Division I

Second-seeded Cornell was a decisive winner over No. 7 Brown in the opening round of NRUs, dispatching the visitors, 58-12, on Saturday. No. 6 Buffalo was not as fortunate, falling to No. 3 UMass, 39-5. Cornell and host UMass will meet in one semifinal, while No. 1 Vassar and No. 4 Radcliffe will meet in the other.


Collegiate Women's Division II
By virtue of its NYS Rugby Division II title, Geneseo advances to the NRU playoffs. The third seed at NRUs, Geneseo will meet No. 2 Playmouth State in the semifinals. No. 1 Providence will take on No. 4 New Paltz in the second semifinal.

Geneseo won the NYS Rugby title with a 15-5 decision over RPI in the title game.


Collegiate Women's Division III
Niagara enters the NRU playoffs on the strength of its 12-10 win over Oswego in the NYS Rugby title game. Seeded third in the NRUs, Niagara will face No. 2 Western Connecticut in the semifinals. No. 1 Castleton State will meet No. 4 Stony Brook in game two.
