Clubs Starting to Emerge

Rugby completes third week of full slate

SYRACUSE, NY -- New York State Rugby (NYS Rugby) completed it second
full week of play today, as 74 clubs are vying for playoff spots in 11
divisions in men's club, and men's and women's collegiate play.
Men's Club Division III
The Syracuse Chargers and Rochester Colonials continued on
their collision course to next week's showdown in Men's Division III club
play. Syracuse (4-0) ran away from Finger Lakes, 91-0, while Rochester
(4-0) scratched out a 27-17 victory over Cortland-Homer. Syracuse travels
to Rochester next Saturday for their highly-anticipated regular-season
matchup.
In other club play, Genesee continued its fine season with a 22-11 win
over Binghamton. Genesee improved to 3-1, good for second place, while
Binghamton fell to 2-2. Lockport picked up its first win of the season
with a 25-19 win over South Buffalo.
Collegiate Men's Premier
Division I
Buffalo (3-0) solidified itself atop Collegiate Men's
Premier with a 15-5 win over Cornell (2-1). The traditional rivals are
expected to meet again in the playoffs as they have for the past few seasons.
Canisius used a 10-3 win over Syracuse to move to 2-1 on the season. Syracuse
fell to 1-2.
Collegiate Men's Empire
Division II
There continues to be a logjam in the Collegiate Men's Division II standings.
In the East, Colgate and Siena stand together at 2-1. Colgate fell to
Albany, 22-15, for its first loss of the season. Siena claimed a 34-18
over cross-town rival Union. Cortland, following a 43-15 win over Le Moyne,
and Albany are tied at 1-1-1.
The Western Division's picture is a little more clear-cut with Buffalo
State alone at 3-0. Geneseo is in second place at 2-1, followed by Rochester
and St. Bonaventure in third place at 1-1-1.
Collegiate Men's Excelsior
Division III
Collegiate Men's Division III finds Paul Smiths and Niagara leading their
respective divisions at a perfect 3-0. Paul Smiths shutout Oneonta, 29-0,
while Niagara sailed to a 24-5 win over RIT. St. Lawrence used a 17-7
victory over North Country rival Plattsburgh to move to 2-1 in the East.
Collegiate
Women's Premier Division I
Cornell continued its march to a perfect season with a 45-0 win over Union.
Now standing at 3-0, Cornell closes the regular season with matches at
Binghamton and Ithaca. Syracuse earned its first win of the season with
a tight 15-14 decision over Buffalo. With the loss, UB fell to 1-2 in
2004.
Collegiate Women's Empire
Division II
Geneseo stayed perfect with a 15-5 win over Brockport in Western Division
action. Albany now stands at 2-0-1 atop the East after its 25-3 win over
Cornell B.
St. Lawrence improved to 2-1 after its 21-0 blanking of RPI in the East,
while Colgate earned its first win of the season in a 22-10 decision over
Oneonta. In Western play, St. John Fisher and Fredonia both won to move
to 2-1 on the season. Fisher slid by RIT, 7-0, while Fredonia topped Buffalo
State, 22-7.
Collegiate Women's Excelsior
Division III
Oswego and Niagara remained perfect in their respective divisions following
similar shutout victories. Oswego leads the East following its 15-0 blanking
of Plattsburgh, while Western-leading Niagara topped Alfred by the same
exact margin.
