NYS Rugby Collegiate Men's All-Stars


The NYS Rugby Collegiate All Star program is ready to get under way for the 2004 season. There will be mandatory tryout/practice on Sunday, May 2nd in Syracuse at Syracuse University's Skytop Softball Field. The tryout/practice will run from 1-3 p.m. Please find directions below.

The team will play against the New England RFU All Stars on Sunday May 16 in Albany, NY. This is the first step for those interested in competing for the NRU Collegiate All Star squad.

The All-Stars will be coached by Mike Hodgins from the Genesee Rugby Club along with Bob Wilson from Syracuse University and Mark Kielbasa from SUNY Brockport. The staff is rounded out by Tom Rienzo from RPI as team manager.

Anyone wanting to try out for the squad should fill in the informational form found on the NYS Rugby website at welcome.to/nysrugby. Player information forms will also be available at the Upstates
Tournament on April 24th.

There will also be an optional game or tournament on Saturday, May 8th for an additional warm up. The squad will assemble for a mandatory practice session on Saturday May 15th in Albany and play on Sunday May 16th.

This is a great opportunity for players that feel they can compete at a higher level and an excellent chance for the NYSRC to showcase our best collegiate players. Anyone considering attending this program should have the appropriate committment, disipline, and drive to take this next
step.

Directions to the Skytop Softball Field at Syracuse University South Campus

From the Main Campus: Go south on Comstock Ave (toward Manley Field House). Turn left onto Colvin St. Turn right at the first light onto Skytop Rd. Turn left immediately before the tennis courts to the softball field.

From the North: Take Route 81 south to exit 17. At the light, turn right onto State St. At the next light, turn right onto Colvin St. Go to the second light, and turn right onto Skytop Rd. Turn left immediately before the tennis courts to the softball fields.

From the South: Take Route 81 north to exit 16A. Bear right onto Route 481. Exit immediately at the Rock Cut Rd exit. Turn right at the stop sign. Turn right at the next light onto Brighton Avenue. Go to Route 11 and turn right onto Salina St. Go to Colvin St and turn right. Go three lights and turn right onto Skytop Rd. Turn left immediately before the tennis courts to the softball fields.

From the East: Take Route 481 south to exit 2. Turn right at the light onto Jamesville Rd, and then left onto Nottingham Rd. Go through one stop sign and turn left at the light onto Colvin St. At the second light turn left onto Skytop Rd. Turn left immediately before the tennis courts to the softball fields.

From the West: Take Route 690 east to Route 81 south. Take exit 17. At the light, turn right onto State St. At the next light, turn right onto Colvin St. Go to the second light, and turn right onto Skytop Rd. Turn left immediately before the tennis courts to the softball fields.
