NYSRC League Championships.
Aardvark Park in Rochester, NY, October 30,31.Results
This past weekend the New York State Conference held playoffs in 6 college divisions, 3 men and 3 women. On Saturday semifinals were played in 4 divisions.Men's division one and two, Women's division one and two.
Men's Premier (D1)
Cornell 15
Binghamton 14
Syracuse 39
Oswego 0
Cornell and Binghamton played a rerun of their regular season match. Cornell defeated Binghamton 35-31 in the match. On Saturday the 2 evenly matched teams battled it out for 80 minutes. The Binghamton scrum half was turned away at the try line as time expired, Cornell escaped with a one point victory. In the second match of the day Syracuse avenged their only regular season loss in two years. From the opening kick Syracuse was off and running, behind the tactical kicking of flyhalf Dave Burt, the SU backs were unstoppable. Syracuse registered the largest victory of the entire playoffs.

Buffalo St 30
Plattsburgh 5
Oneonta spoiled LeMoyne`s first trip to the playoffs in 7 years. Oneonta used a methodical game plan to earn a trip to the finals for the first time in school history. Buffalo St. neutralized the Plattsburgh back line to put away the Cardinals in the first half. Buffalo cruised to the victory to earn their first final appearance.
Women Premier (D1)
Suny Buffalo 29
Plattsburgh 0
Suny Buffalo advanced to the final to face regular season champ Cornell. Buffalo took a 12 point half time lead and never looked back. Plattsburgh qualified for the playoffs in their first season of division one rugby.
Women Empire (D2)
Colgate 27
Syracuse 24
Ithaca 10
Union 0
Colgate and Syracuse played one of the most exciting matches of the day. It was a see saw battle, with Colgate coming out on top. Congratulations go out to the SU women, this was SU`s second consecutive trip to the playoffs. Ithaca made the most of their promotion from division three this season. IC had a undefeated regular season and dodged a bullet in this match. Union gave Ithaca all they could handle but it wasn`t enough.

The West squad remained undefeated in the series, which now stands at 6-0-1Canisius scrumhalf Ryan Stickle was man of the match for the West.
On Sunday 8 matches were played, 6 championships and 2 qualifier matches.
Premier Qualifier (D1)
Oswego 29
Binghamton 17
Oswego rebounded from the previous days defeat to play a very effective game plan. The Oswego forwards played a patient rucking game that held possession and released the ball to the back line at just the right moment. The Oswego backs made the most of each ball. Binghamton played excellent defense, but eventually broke down. Binghamton must be commended on their season, they made the playoffs in only their second season of division one. Oswego will travel to Norwich the New England champ.
Mens Premier Championship
Syracuse 25
Cornell 12
Playing for the second time in two weeks, these familiar teams played a chess match. Cornell took an early lead with 2 pack tries. Syracuse stay on their game planwhen the teams switched ends at the half, Syracuse flyhalf Dave Burt use the wind to place strategic kicks to pin Cornell deep in their own end. SU made the most of a couple of turnovers to pull away in the second half. Dave Burt earned MVP honors for the winners. Syracuse will host UMass and Cornell will host UConn in the first round of NRU playoffs.
Women Premier
Cornell 27
Suny Buffalo 0
Cornell returned to a familiar role, NYSRC Women's Division One Champions. Suny Buffalo was game but unable to contain the complete game Cornell played.Cornell prop Margret Sharpe was the MVP. Cornell will host Yale and Suny Buffalo will travel to Amherst, both opponents are New England quailfiers.
Empire Qualifier

Plattsburgh 5
With a NRU playoff spot on the line, these 2 teams played an exciting defensive match. Both teams stopped the other time and time again. Finally LeMoyne was able to pull away. LeMoyne advances to play Colby of New England in the opening round of NRU play.
Empire Men Championship
Buffalo St. 37
Oneonta 5
Buffalo St. never looked back after scoring and converting in the first 4 minutes of this match. Oneonta worked through out this match, scoring their try late in the match. The outcome was similar to all of buffalo`s matches this season. Buffalo St. Scrumhalf Joe Kirsch was MVP. Buffalo will host Middlebury of New England and Oneonta will host Columbia of Met NY.
Women Empire
Ithaca 24
Colgate 14
Ithaca wins the Division Two crown in their first year. Last years
Division Three Champ capped an undefeated season with their victory.
Ithaca advances to the final four at UMass 11/13-14
Men Excelsior (D3)
St. John Fisher 36
Potsdam 0
Local favorite St. John Fisher arrived at Aardvark Park for their championship match with a fan base of about 200 strong. They didn't disappoint them, SJF raced to a convincing victory in the match up of 2
undefeated teams. Flyhalf Mike Finn was awarded the MVP for his performance. St. John Fisher
advances to the NRU final four at UMass 11/13-14
Women Excelsior
St. Bonaventure 22
Suny Albany 5
In their first season of league play SBU finished an undefeated season with their victory. Suny Albany returned to league play after a year absence to make it all the way to the championship game. Fullback Molly Macnamara was the MVP for the victors. SBU will advance to the NRU Championship in Albany NY on 11/20
